If I were to begin and end my blogging journey with just one article, it would be this one.

Believing in ourselves is the most important skill we can learn and practice. It is foundational to personal and professional growth. Self-belief empowers us to communicate with clarity, set and hold healthy boundaries, take risks, and overcome challenges. If we don’t believe in ourselves, how can we expect others to?


One of the most influential figures in my life is Gloria Steinem. Her work on self-esteem underscores that it is fundamental to personal empowerment, social change, and the ability to resist societal pressures and injustices.


Steinem teaches that building self-esteem involves recognizing our inherent worth, rejecting external validation as the sole measure of value, and fostering a sense of agency and self-respect.

She often highlights how societal structures, such as patriarchy, racism, and other forms of oppression, can erode self-esteem, particularly in marginalized groups.


By reclaiming self-worth, we can challenge these structures and contribute to broader movements for equality and justice

Steinem’s approach ties self-esteem to collective empowerment, showing that self-acceptance is not just a personal journey but a cornerstone of social transformation.


Self-esteem is also a secret weapon against burnout, self-doubt, criticism, and the internal saboteurs that keep us stuck. While external saboteurs can present challenges, they are often easier to manage. The battle with internal saboteurs, those self-critical thoughts and fears, is a different story. This is where self-belief becomes your greatest ally.

Self-Belief: Often synonymous with self-confidence, this pertains to your trust in your abilities to perform tasks or handle situations. It’s the belief in your competence to achieve goals, such as thinking, “I can successfully complete this project.”


In summary, self-esteem is about valuing yourself as a person, while self-belief focuses on your confidence in your abilities. Both are crucial for personal development but address different aspects of the self.
